Leading trade fair for paper, office supplies and stationery.

Jan 29 - Feb 1, 2011

Final Report Paperworld 2010

   * A successful start in Frankfurt: more visitors to the four consumer-goods fairs

   * More visitors at Paperworld 2010

   * More optimism about the economic situation and a good mood in the exhibition halls

Around 104,000 trade visitors from 142 countries attended the trade-fair quartet of Paperworld, Christmasworld, Beautyworld and Hair and Beauty from 30 January to 2 February 2010. This means that, despite the unpleasant weather conditions, around 4,000 more buyers made their way to Frankfurt am Main than the year before. Every second visitor came from outside Germany. The top five visitor nations after Germany were Italy, France, The Netherlands, Great Britain and Switzerland. Representing the paper, office supplies and stationery, festive decorations, beauty and cosmetics and the hair-cosmetic industry, a total of 3,438 exhibitors from 67 countries made presentations at the four events.

This year, 45,521 visitors from 142 countries made their way to Paperworld – Leading International Trade Fair for Paper, Office Supplies and Stationery – in Frankfurt, an increase of 3,695 visitors. While the number of German visitors fell from 19,470 in 2009 to 18,422 in 2010, the number of foreign visitors rose by 4,743 in the same period. (2009: 22,356 visitors; 2010: 27,099 visitors). “The decline in the number of German visitors was undoubtedly due to the weather situation with widespread snow and ice. Hence, there were far fewer spontaneous visitors whereas foreign guests tend to book well in advance and necessarily ignore the weather”, says Michael Reichhold, Paperworld Director, explaining the slight decline in numbers from Germany

The number of exhibitors climbed from 2,029 in 2009 to 2,111 this year, which also meant there were more new products to be seen than the year before. Moreover, the average time spent by visitors to the fair has also risen slightly to two days (2009: 1.9 days).

Elegance comes to the home office
In the home office, elegance and high-quality materials are in demand. Here, muted colours and often white are used. A kind of luxurious ecology is developing – high-quality design and sustainable materials come together, for example, for sophisticated office ranges, paper with a FSC certification, which looks handcrafted. The same applies as for the stationery; in this segment the consumer must be able to see the value of the product.

Functionality in the workplace
At the office work station, ergonomy and functionality dominate. Here one finds fewer bold colours, with white and transparent dominating the scene. Data destruction is becoming more and more important for companies. Not just paper but these days CDs, DVDs and hard disks too are destroyed in file and data shredders. New file shredders now offer fine dust filters, another aspect of sustainability.

Emotionality in paper products and accessories
In the paper products and accessories segment, emotion is in demand, emotion expressed in motifs and words on cards, calendars, etc. Print products as well as a wide variety of accessories feature emotional texts. In terms of colour, mauve, pinks and reds are often in evidence with lots of floral decoration. Spotted and block stripe designs are also on show in vibrant colours like blue and orange. The range of notebooks available, many with a high-quality finish, could make you forget that we live in a digital age.
